The ones who have “Bieber fever” and remember him from his childhood YouTube cover days.

Instead of going all in on production value, Justin Bieber made his set feel like you’re in the living room with him. And that made it stand out.

However, this has also drawn some backlash from critics, who say that a female headliner would never be able to get away with, let alone praised for, a set this stripped down. And I have to agree. Rosalía is currently putting on one of the most thoughtfully curated and intentionally produced arena tours with her LUX World Tour, and fans even joked on TikTok that she “used the whole tour production budget on Bjork”.

So, Justin has some fans and some critics. What else is new.

Here’s what he can do to engage the former and possibly re-ignite the later.

Lean fully into the “full circle moment” of it all.

Justin was famously discovered on YouTube for his covers. Have Justin partner with YouTube to create a playlist hand picked by Justin of his favorite current YouTube covers. He can spotlight young artists doing unique covers on YouTube in a nod to both the next generation and his own start. He can also go all in on nostalgia by re-packaging his iconic purple Baby hoodie for merch in his new era.

Let fans co-curate the setlist with you

Similar to how Justin was taking “requests” from the livestream chat at Coachella, let fan co-curate the setlist by partnering with a DSP (music streaming platform like Spotify, Apple Music, etc) to create a “group” playlist where super fans can add their dream songs to the “setlist”.

Keep a good thing going with his SKLYRK x Shark ChillPill Portable Fan Collab

Portable fans are set to be the “it” accessory of summer 2026. Justin Bieber is the first major celebrity to understand that. He could have one-of-a-kind “cooling” centers at each tour stop where fans can try out the portable fan and escape the “Heat” (a cheeky play on the name of the Skylrk collection).

With these three ideas, Justin Bieber could keep his most engaged fans hooked long after he leaves the Coachella stage.

If you like these ideas and want some rollout moves of your own, hit me up! It’s literally what I do.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" for.

<guid GMT

If you’ve been posting consistently and still feel like your content isn’t sticking, the problem probably is may not be your frequency — it’s probably your format.

The accounts that win on social aren’t just posting often. They’re posting recognizably. They’ve built what we call a Signature Series: a type of content they recreate over and over until they become known for it. Think of it as your show. Your column. Your thing.

This is how you become someone’s “comfort creator” and how you build a brand on social that actually cuts through the noise.

Here’s how to build yours in three steps.

Step 1: Cater to Your Audience and Add Value

Before your content can convert, it has to serve. Your Signature Series should do at least one of three things: entertain, educate, or comfort. That’s it. If your content isn’t checking one of those boxes, it’s just noise.

Ask yourself: What does my audience need from me that no one else is giving them? The answer to that question is your series.

Step 2: Map Out the Creative Direction

Once you know your concept, lock in the creative before you film a single second of content. Make a brief for every video in the series that covers:

Visual Setting — Where is it filmed? What’s the backdrop?

Copy/Tone — What’s the voice? How does it feel?

Editing Style — What keeps every video uniform but still engaging?

Consistency is what makes a series a series. If every video looks and feels different, you’re just posting, not building.

Step 3: Stick to a Schedule You Can Actually Commit To

Daily posting is ideal, but only if you can sustain it. An inconsistent posting schedule is worse than a slower one. Pick a cadence and protect it:

Hard mode: Daily posts

Medium mode: 4x per week

Easy mode: 2x per week

The algorithm rewards consistency. More importantly, so does your audience.

The bottom line: A Signature Series isn’t just a content strategy, it’s how you become memorable. It’s the difference between someone scrolling past your post and someone actively coming back to see what you put out next.

If building this sounds like a lot to manage on top of everything else you’re already doing, that’s what we’re here for. Reply to this email of hit me up on socials and let’s chat.

How I'd Grow Your Socials From 0 to 10,000

So here’s exactly how I deliver results for our clients...

olivia

So you want to grow your socials…

Of course you do. Your goal shapes everything we do — because a strategy built for the wrong outcome is just wasted effort.

From there, we spend 20–30 hours researching your niche, your competitors, and what’s already working with your target audience. We write the scripts, craft the hooks, and build out your full content strategy. You just show up and film.

Once we find the content format that’s getting traction, we double down on it — hard. We handle the posting schedule, platform optimization, and engagement tools so every piece of content is working toward a specific goal. Each week we dig into the analytics: what performed, what didn’t, and what we’re adjusting going into the next week.

And when you hit your follower targets? That’s where most agencies stop — but that’s where we’re just getting started. We build the funnel that turns those followers into actual revenue: the automations, the conversion touchpoints, the systems that make your audience work for you around the clock.

We handle all of it, start to finish.

Send me an email and let’s map out what this looks like for you.

send me an email

How We Land Our Clients' Big Announcements in Top-Tier Press

That big announcement you have to make is worth a big rollout.

olivia

I’ve been on both sides of the announcement. As a publicist, I’ve helped clients land features in major publications around some of the biggest moments of their careers. And as someone who went from assistant to CEO in about two years, I’ve personally had to figure out how to make my own story land.

Here’s what I know for certain: most people fumble their own announcements. Not because the moment isn’t worthy of press — but because they don’t treat it like the strategic opportunity it actually is.

So let me pull back the curtain on how we actually do this at Amethyst Collab.

We start the conversation weeks before the announcement.

The number one mistake I see is people coming to us two days before they want something to go live. That’s risky.

The best placements we’ve secured for clients came from conversations that started four to six weeks out. That lead time is what allows us to build the right pitch, identify the right outlets, and sequence the rollout so it actually builds momentum instead of disappearing into the news cycle by noon.

If you’re planning something big — a new project, a partnership, a launch — the first call you make should be to your publicist.

We build the story before we pitch it.

“I’m launching a management company” is not a story. “I’m redefining the traditional artist-manager relationship through a new management firm backed by my years of experience” is a story.

Before we write a single pitch email, we sit down and figure out the angle. What does this moment say beyond the announcement itself? What conversation does it start? What does it mean for the industry, the culture, the audience?

The outlet we’re pitching doesn’t care about the milestone — they care about what the milestone means to their readers. Our job is to translate your win into something a journalist can actually use. That translation is where most DIY press attempts fall apart, and it’s also where a good publicist earns their retainer.

We make sure our clients are ready to actually talk.

You would be shocked how often someone secures a press opportunity and then has absolutely nothing interesting to say.

Part of what we do is make sure our clients are media-ready before we ever make a pitch. That means having quotes prepared that go beyond “I’m so excited and grateful.” (That quote gets cut every single time, by the way.) It means being able to jump on a phone call with a reporter on short notice. It means having a clear point of view on the industry, your work, and your vision — not just your announcement.

Reporters are looking for specificity, personality, and perspective. We help our clients find all three before anyone picks up the phone.

We have everything ready before we send the pitch.

A great press placement with a missing headshot, a low-res photo, or a bio that hasn’t been updated since 2022 is a waste of everyone’s time — including ours.

Before any announcement goes out, we make sure every asset is ready to send immediately: high-quality photos, a polished bio, clean visuals for any product or project involved. We never make a journalist chase us down for basics. That’s how you lose placements you already had.

We treat the drop date as the starting gun, not the finish line.

The announcement going live is not the moment to exhale. It’s the moment to execute.

At Amethyst, we build out a full rollout plan that covers what happens after the piece publishes — press the week of, social amplification, outreach to collaborators, investors, or industry contacts who need to see it. The placement is valuable. What you do with it is what makes it count.

If you’re sitting on a big announcement and you’re not sure how to make it land, that’s exactly what we do. Every day.

Reach out at hmu@amethystcollab.com, let’s build the rollout together.

Stop Saying Your Target Audience Is "Everyone" — Here's What to Do Instead

Know who your fans are so you can market directly to them.

olivia

There’s a mistake I see artists make over and over again, and it’s one of the most costly things you can do to your marketing strategy before you’ve even started.

When I ask an artist, “Who is your target audience?” and they say everyone — that’s a problem.

I get it. You made music that comes from a real place, music you believe in, and you genuinely think it could resonate with all kinds of people. That might even be true. But “everyone” is not a marketing strategy. It’s a way of saying you haven’t done the work yet. Because here’s the thing: if you don’t know who you’re talking to, you can’t talk to them.

I have a little fix I like to call fan personas, and building them out properly is one of the most powerful things you can do for your rollout.

Fan Persona A: Your Super Fan

Think of this as the top of the pyramid. These are the people already in your corner, or the people you’re building toward. They’re buying your merch. They’re at your shows. They’re the ones leaving comments, sharing your music unprompted, and pulling other people into your world. These are the fans who fund your career in the most direct way, and they deserve to be known deeply.

So who are they? Get specific. What else do they listen to when it’s not you, where are they finding that music? What’s their age range? Their gender? How do they express themselves visually? What does their day look like? Where do they spend time online?

Don’t build a vague archetype. Build a person. Give them a name if it helps. Know them like you’d know a friend, because in many ways, they are your community.

Fan Persona B: The Future Convert

This is the bottom of the pyramid, top of the funnel. These are the people who don’t know you yet, but they will, and when they find you, something is going to click. They’ll follow you on social. They’ll add your track to a playlist on Spotify. They’re open to becoming fans; they just haven’t been introduced yet.

Your job with this persona is to think about discovery. What kind of content would stop them mid-scroll? What would make them curious enough to click over to your profile? This is where your most marketable content lives, the videos that aren’t deeply lore-y or narrative-heavy, but instead hit fast and hit hard. You know the ones: low production overhead, high emotional or entertainment payoff, zero friction.

These are the pieces of content that introduce you to strangers in a way that makes them want to stay.

Why This Changes Everything

The goal isn’t to narrow your reach. It’s to sharpen your aim. When you know who you’re talking to, every piece of content, every campaign, every rollout decision gets easier and more effective.

“So uhh can you just do all this for me?”

Yes, I can. Send me an email and let’s make your fan map.

Rollout Roundup: Analyzing The Best Rollouts Of The Week

Harry Styles, I'm coming for you.

olivia

I’m baaaaack! Three releases dropped this week that deserve a full breakdown.

My name is Olivia, and I own entertainment marketing company Amethyst Collab, where I work with artists and entertainers on creative rollout strategies with a focus on social media and digital marketing. Now let’s get into it!

Harry Styles Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. (Album)

The Release

Harry Styles’ fourth studio album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. arrives on March 6 after one of the most carefully constructed gap years in recent pop history. The 12-track project, executive produced by longtime collaborator Kid Harpoon, pulls from disco, synth-pop, and European club culture — recorded between 2024 and 2025 at Hansa Studios in Berlin and Abbey Road in London. The album follows Harry’s House, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2023, meaning the bar coming in was already sky-high. The campaign surrounding this release has been just as considered as the music itself, and that is not an accident.

What Worked

Styles went quiet for years — no drip of content, no ambient promo — which allowed the album announcement to land like an actual event. When the campaign did begin, it started with an eight-minute YouTube film uploaded in late December 2025, closing on the phrase “We Belong Together,” which seeded the campaign before anyone even knew a campaign had started. Global street posters in January directed fans to a cryptic website, which then redirected them to a WhatsApp community — turning a traditional media touchpoint into a permission-based, direct-to-fan channel that most artists are still treating as a footnote. The cover art reveal on Instagram pulled over four million likes in three hours, proving the appetite was fully there before a single album review went live.

The physical rollout is equally impressive. Multiple vinyl variants — including a holographic sleeve and a sold-out pink edition — plus a deluxe box set with a branded 35mm film camera speak directly to the collector culture Styles has cultivated over three albums. The tour architecture is also smart: instead of a traditional world tour, he is anchoring in residencies, including 30 dates at Madison Square Garden and 12 nights at Wembley Stadium. Residency-first strategies let artists control the live show at a level touring logistics rarely allows, and they create a destination pull that keeps a market warm for months. The Netflix concert special dropping two days after the album extends the release weekend into a cultural moment rather than just a Friday upload.

What I’d Add

The WhatsApp community is the most interesting piece of this campaign, and it deserves to be pushed further. Right now it functions as a fan engagement layer — but with a list that size, it could become a genuine release mechanism. Imagine a surprise bonus track dropping exclusively in the chat, or the first ticket presale window living there before it goes anywhere else. The scarcity and intimacy are already built in; the next step is making that channel do real commercial work.

I’m always saying this about Harry Styles and other artists with superfans, but the fans are being severely underutilized. There should be a content creation system for the fan pages. Employ your biggest supporters!

Shakira & Beéle “Algo Tú” (Single)

The Release

“Algo Tú,” the new collaboration between Shakira and Colombian artist Beéle, officially released on March 4 — but the real launch happened on March 1, when Shakira debuted the track live at her free concert in Mexico City’s Zócalo in front of more than 400,000 people, setting a new record for the largest concert in Mexico City history. The timing is perfect, it arrives during the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which Billboard has already confirmed as the highest-grossing Hispanic tour in history, pulling in $421.6 million across 82 stadium dates.

What Worked

The sequencing here is near-perfect. Rather than releasing the single and hoping a performance moment would follow, the team engineered the live debut first and let the record release serve as the follow-up. The result: a 400,000-person room became free earned media that no marketing budget can replicate, and the official release two days later benefited from all the press coverage, fan footage, and social volume the live moment generated. That is inverted rollout thinking, and it works.

The buildup was also thoughtfully paced. Rumors started circulating in January when Shakira’s production team and de Laiguana were spotted in Colombia. Behind-the-scenes footage from Barranquilla — with marimondas, comparsas, and Shakira behind the wheel of a city bus — gave fans something to track in real time without a single official confirmation. The lyric video dropped with the single, with the official music video to follow shortly after, giving the campaign two distinct content windows without cannibalizing attention. And choosing Beéle as the collaborator signals a deliberate strategy: Shakira continues to bridge her legacy fanbase with newer Latin audiences by choosing rising artists from within the culture rather than crossing into pop adjacency for a feature.

What I’d Add

The Barranquilla rollout footage was gold — but it lived mostly in fan-captured clips and regional media rather than being seeded as its own content series by Shakira’s team. A three-to-four-part behind-the-scenes documentary dropped to YouTube in the weeks leading up to release, centered on the Carnaval creative universe of the video shoot, would have deepened the storytelling around a single that already has a strong visual and cultural identity. Audiences want to be let into the world, not just shown the door.

Given that Beéle is a rising artist with a distinct fanbase, more deliberate cross-promotion into his channels — takeovers, joint content, collaborative playlists — would have served both artists. The collaboration introduced Beéle to Shakira’s audience, but the reverse pipeline is equally valuable and looked underdeveloped from the outside. When you feature someone as culturally specific and ascending as Beéle, the campaign should work as hard for them as it does for the main act.

Bebe Rexha “New Religion” (Single)

The Release

“New Religion,” the third single from Bebe Rexha’s forthcoming visual album Dirty Blonde, dropped today on March 6 via Empire Distribution — her first release as an independent artist after departing Warner Records. Rexha has described this era as a return to dance music after a period of frustration and creative constraint, and the three-single run ahead of the June 12 album release is positioning Dirty Blonde as an event rather than just a record.

What Worked

The creative framing around this era is doing real work. Rexha announced Dirty Blonde with a 13-second teaser in February that displayed the full track listing before revealing anything else — a high-confidence move that signals the music can stand on its own. She followed it with a Diplo-produced supercut remixing snippets of every song, which functioned as a cinematic album trailer. These were not just promotional assets; they were creative statements, and they told a story about an artist who arrived at this project with clarity and conviction.

The decision to release every track as an individual single — each with its own music video — is ambitious and audience-centered. Rexha told Billboard she does not want to be “confined by a certain sound or certain boundaries,” and the single-by-single model lets each track breathe without forcing listeners to consume a 13-track body of work in one sitting. The fan voting system used to select “Çike Çike” as the second single was a particularly smart democratizing move that turned the release calendar into a participatory moment. And her real-time relationship with her audience on social — including publicly shutting down BLACKPINK collaboration rumors while redirecting straight to “New Religion” — keeps her visible and relatable without manufactured drama.

What I’d Add

The independent pivot to Empire is the most important story in this campaign, and it is not being told loudly enough. Framing this era as “creative freedom” in press quotes is a start — but there is a longer narrative here about an artist who left a major label system, bet on herself, and delivered a visual album with a clear sonic identity. That is a story that resonates with artists, with industry press, and with fans who have been watching her navigate that transition publicly. A dedicated media moment — a Billboard cover, a Variety long-form, a personal essay placed on a major platform — built around the independence narrative would give this campaign a spine that the individual singles are still building toward.

The visual album concept also deserves more pre-release infrastructure. Promising a music video for every track raises audience expectations — but without a clear roadmap for when those videos are coming post-June 12, there is a risk the rollout loses momentum after the album drops. Maybe add a cryptic countdown page for each visual.

Need help with your rollout? Starting a new job? Major promotion? Landing a feature in a major publication?

Big moments deserve big rollouts. But most people fumble their own announcements — either by moving too fast, not thinking strategically, or treating a PR opportunity like a casual Instagram post. Here’s how to actually make the most of it.

1. Tell your publicist early.

I cannot stress this enough. Give us time to build the right pitch, identify the right outlets, and time the release strategically. The best press placements don’t happen overnight — they’re the result of conversations that happen weeks in advance. No publicist? No problem. Hit me up.

2. Know your angle.

“I got a new job” is not a story. “I went from assistant to CEO in two years and here’s what I learned about the music industry along the way” is a story (a true one, from my life by the way, lol). Before you announce anything, ask yourself: why does this matter beyond my personal network? What does it say about where the industry is headed? What conversation does it start? If you can’t answer those questions, keep workshopping your angle with your publicist. The outlet you’re pitching doesn’t care about your milestone — they care about what your milestone means to their readers.

3. Be ready to talk.

You’d be surprised how many people secure a press opportunity and then have absolutely nothing interesting to say. Can you jump on the phone with a reporter on short notice? Do you have quotes prepared that go beyond “I’m so excited and grateful for this opportunity”? Because that quote will get cut every single time. Think about what you actually want people to walk away knowing — about you, your vision, your take on the industry. Reporters are looking for specificity, perspective, and personality. Give them something to work with.

4. Have assets ready.

A great press placement with a low-res or worse, no headshot is a waste of everybody’s time. Before your announcement goes live, make sure you have high-quality photos, an updated bio, and any relevant supporting materials that a journalist or editor might need. If there’s a product, album, or brand involved, have clean visuals ready to send immediately. Don’t make a reporter chase you down for basics.

5. Think beyond the drop date.

The announcement is not the finish line — it’s the starting gun. What’s your follow-up plan? Are you doing press the week it goes live? Are you leveraging the placement on your own channels? Are you sending it to potential clients, collaborators, or investors? Make a plan for what happens after.

Your big moment deserves more than a post and a prayer. Treat it like the launch it is.

What else do you want to know about landing press for your big announcements?

<a class="image-link image2 length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

You’ve heard it said before. So, is all press really good press? It depends.

A publicist’s favorite answer.

Yes, I see the irony. So here’s the breakdown:

If you rely on ragebaiting, quick viral hits, and outrage marketing, then yes. Kim Kardashian, for example, has made a pretty fruitful career out of this. There are some music artists who do it as well. And I get it - virality sells. Some people think when folks are talking, that’s all that matters. But what people are saying about you and your brand is just as important to cultivating long term relationships with your audience.

So for some people, I guess all press is good press.

But if you’re looking to build a legacy, and stay brand-safe, then no. It sure isn’t.

Curating your public image carefully is smart. It gives you the flexibility for a longer career, and more allies both in the industry and in your fans.

However, a scenario where “all press is good press” actually does apply when artists or other creatives invoke the saying to justify overlooking small, niche outlets in favor of only big outlets. Overlooking trade publications is one of the biggest mistakes you can make in 2026. You never know where your next fan or customer can be. Have the humility to meet then where they’re at.

Additionally, in this political climate, the “controversial” choice to speak out against injustice can be made. Artists like Ariana Grande have seen their political prowess lead to more engaged fans.

So the most important thing to consider is: are your core fans happy? Are you? So I thought, what better time than now to set the record straight. Let’s get into it.

Myth: I need to post every day or my fans will forget I exist.

Truth: You need to post as often as is sustainable for you. If you post every day for a month then just stop, that’s worse than posting 3 times per week for a year. Consistency is key.

Myth: We should always be looking at other artist’s content for inspo.

Truth: You should have 3-5 rotating content pillars that reflect YOUR brand and goals.

Myth: I want press but it’s not effective for artists in 2026 and the digital age.

Truth: Press is a long game, but the payoff is there. Press brings notoriety, SEO, industry relationships, and more. It can also be used for viral content if you have the right press team helping maximize those moments (like Amethyst Collab).

Myth: My fan base is too small to use a burner account strategy.

Truth: This works especially well for small artists, especially when you use cultural marketing analysis and audience overlap research to create the right type of burner pages. Email Amethyst Collab. Welcome back. I appreciate all the support on my Forbes column. This piece, however, will be a Substack exclusive, because I need to spill the tea. Out with the old, in with the new!

Let’s get into it.

Skip: Macro-Influencer Campaigns

Unless you’ve got a budget of over 6 figures, which some people do, paying influencers 5 figures and up for a post thats views you can’t control isn’t smart.

Instead: Run a Fan Page Campaign OR A Trending Audio Campaign with Micro Influencers

Fan pages give you complete control over messaging, timing, and creative direction while delivering guaranteed high-volume results on TikTok and Instagram. At Amethyst Collab, we run targeted fan pages for artists who struggle with posting consistently on their main accounts or want additional traction sources—plus genre-focused fan pages that amplify entire label rosters. Our Social Media Strategy & Management service ensures every piece of content is strategically planned for maximum growth and impact, while our Fan Pages deliver the high-volume sound results that macro-influencers promise but can't guarantee.

Skip: A Massive Advertising/Boosting Campaign

Throwing money behind every post isn’t gunna lead to real fans, especially if you have no organic content strategy to connect with them once they do follow you. You absolutely need a strong foundation of 3-6 months of a winning content strategy first.

Instead: Start with a Content Strategy Campaign

Our Social Media Strategy & Management service builds that crucial foundation by testing content formats, hooks, and audience responses organically before you spend a dollar on ads. We manage your socials from A-Z, identifying which posts drive real engagement and community building, then scale those winning formats through strategic paid promotion. This approach ensures every ad dollar amplifies content that's already proven to resonate with your audience.

Skip: Only Having Press Support During a Rollout

Treating press like a switch you flip on and off around releases means you’re constantly starting from zero, rebuilding relationships with writers and editors who’ve moved on to other artists by the time you circle back.

Instead: Always-On, Strategic Press Campaigns

Consistent press visibility keeps you in ongoing conversations with tastemakers, builds deeper relationships with key writers, and positions you as a go-to source for industry commentary and cultural moments beyond just your music releases. Our Press Support service maintains year-round editorial and digital press campaigns that secure meaningful coverage during quiet periods, whether it’s commentary on industry trends, collaborative features, or lifestyle pieces that humanize your brand. When you do have a release, you’re already top-of-mind with editors rather than competing with hundreds of other artists for their attention during busy release weeks. This approach ensures every rollout builds on existing momentum instead of starting from scratch.

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Marketing Campaign Is Already Stealing The Show - Here's The Playbook

Bad Bunny has the world's eyes on him as the Super Bowl approaches.

olivia

The Super Bowl halftime show announcement typically follows a predictable pattern: press release, social media posts, morning show appearances. GMT

Gone are the days of buying tickets to a show because you like one or two of the artists songs and had nothing better to do on a friday night. Concerts are now for hyper-dedicated super fans only. And that’s a damn shame.

The process of ticket buying has become an impenetrable barrier - signing up for presale up to a week before, getting in the digital waiting room for 30 minutes, usually in the middle of a work day, waiting up to an hour, battling bots, and still probably not securing tickets.

My first full time job in music was in concerts, and I’ve found many of my favorite artists from stumbling upon their shows. But with the process of buying tickets more hectic than ever, concerts are no longer an accessible channel of fan discovery. If you’ve made it past the “buying tickets” phase, you’re probably somewhere in that artist’s top listeners already.

I got Rauw Alejandro tickets nearly same day in May of 2025, and by December he was in my Top 5 artists on Spotify. In that audience, a fan was made. But with most concerts today selling out within minutes, from artists like Monaleo doing 2,000 capacity rooms, to Bad Bunny’s entire world tour filling 20,000 capacity arenas, casually obtaining tickets for anyone is a near impossible, or at the very least an annoying, feat.

So, what are we going to do about it? I sure wish I knew. Will there be a new ticketing platform that emerges, offering fans and artist teams a new method of ticket selling that fixes this issue, or at least eases the burden on fans? With all of the technological advancements we’re making it would be a surprise if one can’t emerge.

What I do know is that casual concert going as a form of artist discovery is a crucial part of the music industry. It’s a crucial part of the artist’s journey and the potential expansion of their world. We don’t need artists selling any less tickets, as streaming becomes less lucrative every day, but we do need to make the process of buying tickets more democratized.

Do music executives need their own PR campaigns?

Ever wondered how those 30 under 30 lists happen? Keep reading for the inside scoop on the music industry's best kept secret: executive PR.

olivia

The music industry has always been about visibility, but traditionally that spotlight has been reserved for artists. Behind every chart-topping album and viral moment, there’s a team of executives making critical decisions that shape culture yet most remain invisible to the public eye. This anonymity used to be a badge of honor, a sign that you were letting the work speak for itself. But in today’s hyper-connected music ecosystem, that playbook is rapidly becoming obsolete.

The Changing Landscape of Music Leadership

The modern music executive operates in a fundamentally different environment than our predecessors. Social media has democratized access to industry conversations, streaming has made data transparency the norm, and creators are increasingly choosing partners based on personal brand alignment, not just corporate affiliation.

This shift isn’t just about ego or recognition. It’s about credibility and connection. Today’s music professionals need to demonstrate thought leadership in real time, engage with industry conversations as they happen, and build trust with talent who have more options than ever before. The executives who understand this aren’t just surviving; they’re thriving.

Why Executive PR Matters More Than Ever

The benefits of strategic executive PR extend far beyond personal accolades. For music executives, a carefully crafted public presence has it’s benefits:

Talent Acquisition and Retention: Artists and creators increasingly want to work with executives who share their values and vision. When a head of A&R has a strong public presence that demonstrates their taste, expertise, and track record, they become a magnet for talent. This is especially crucial in competitive signing situations where multiple labels are vying for the same artist.

Industry Influence: Executives with strong personal brands shape industry narratives. They’re quoted in trade publications, invited to speak at conferences, and consulted on trend pieces. This visibility creates a virtuous cycle where the more visible you are, the more opportunities arise to influence the conversation, which in turn strengthens your position within your organization and the industry at large.

Partnership Development: Whether it’s brand partnerships, sync opportunities, or cross-industry collaborations, deals increasingly happen between people, not just companies. Executives who have cultivated their professional presence find doors opening that might otherwise remain closed. A music supervisor is more likely to take a meeting with an executive they’ve been following on LinkedIn than a cold email from an unknown sender.

Career Insurance: In an industry known for its turbulence, and a time where layoffs are abundant, a strong personal brand provides career resilience. Executives with established reputations and networks aren’t just employees, they’re industry assets. This positioning provides leverage in negotiations, smoother transitions between roles, and opportunities that extend beyond traditional employment.

Navigating the Unique Challenges Executives Face with PR

Of course, executive PR comes with unique challenges that require careful navigation. There’s the delicate balance of maintaining professional boundaries while being personable and accessible. There’s the challenge of standing out without overshadowing the artists you’re meant to support. And there’s the ever-present risk of saying something that could impact business relationships or negotiations.

Smart executives work with PR professionals who understand these nuances. They develop clear guidelines around what can and can’t be shared, establish approval processes for sensitive content, and create crisis communication plans before they’re needed. They understand that in the age of screenshots and viral moments, everything they post becomes part of their permanent professional record.

The Future of Music Industry Thought Leadership

As the music industry continues to evolve, executive visibility will only become more critical. The next generation of music leaders won’t have the luxury of anonymity. They’ll be expected to be thought leaders, cultural commentators, and accessible mentors all while delivering business results.

The executives who start building their presence now, who invest in their personal brand with the same rigor they apply to artist development, will be the ones shaping the industry’s future. They’ll be the ones on those 30 under 30 lists, the ones artists seek out for partnerships, and the ones whose opinions move markets.

The question isn’t whether music executives need their own PR campaigns anymore. The question is: can they afford not to have one?
