Rollout Roundup: Breaking Down the Best Rollouts of the Week - 9.20.24
This week we dive into the rollouts of Future, Camila Cabello, and 4batz.
Welcome back to Rollout Roundup, where I break down the best (and worst) marketing rollout moves of the week. If you’re new here, thanks for reading! My name is Olivia, and I own a music marketing company called Amethyst Collab, where I work with artists on creative rollout strategies with a focus on digital marketing. Let’s dive in!
4batz x Lil Baby — roll da dice (Single)
Strengths: 4batz does a great job, once again, at collaborating with an artist and capturing their fan base. I love that they each had content rollout together before the music dropped. From the photo to music trailers with both artists teasing the song, this collaboration definitely had the lead-up content that excites fans.
Room for improvement: I’m hoping some more pictures and visuals are on the way? It would be great to get a look into their recording process for this song. Did they write together, or did Lil Baby hop on an existing song? It would be a fun homage to 4batz’s quick rise for them to create his viral From The Block performance video together.
Future - Mixtape Pluto (Mixtape)
Strengths: Future has a strong color for each of his mixtape rollouts. I love the neon pink branding and the clear attention to detail in his creative assets for this mixtape. He’s been very fun and interactive with his fans on Twitter/X throughout his tour with Metro Boomi. As usual, that is Future’s platform of choice.
Room for improvement: I’d love to see a stronger fan engagement strategy for an artist as big as Future. Is there a pop-up for his fans? Is he having a temporary installation in a museum in Atlanta? What can we do here that’s out of the box? I’d also love to see Future do some fun social content, like “name that song” or street interview style content with fans and creators. Additionally, a “life lately” type of photo dump from Future would break the internet.
Camila Cabello - C,XOXO - Magic City Edition (Deluxe Album)
Strengths: Camila Cabello crafts a perfect world in the C,XOXO universe. Going so far as dying her hair and eyebrows for the era, she is no stranger to creating visual masterpieces for each of her albums. Her collaborations throughout the album and deluxe version may seem unlikely, but they tie in well. The clear theme of growing up in both the music industry and in Miami are persistent throughout the content, from social media to music videos and even live performance choreography. Her use of social media that feels both personal and professional is a masterclass in fan engagement and brand positioning.
Room for improvement: I would have loved to see some of her creation process. What made Camila want to lean into hyperpop for this project? What made her select each feature? There are so many questions in her marketing of this album that feel unanswered. Both BTS and an in-depth video interview would help tie it all in.
