Rollout Roundup: Breaking Down This Week's Best Rollouts 2.21
This week I’m reviewing the rollouts of Selena Gomez, Tate McRae, JENNIE and Doechii.
Hi! If you’re new here, thanks for reading! My name is Olivia, and I own entertainment marketing company Amethyst Collab, where I work with artists and entertainers on creative rollout strategies with a focus on social media and digital marketing. Now let’s get into it!
This week we have a rare lineup - three absolute masterclasses in music marketing. Real rollouts are so back, baby!
Tate McRae - So Close To What (Album)
What I Love: Everything. The release night performance, the visuals accompanying every single part of the rollout starting nearly six months ahead, the visual and sonic world Tate is crafting.
What I’d Add: This is a tough one. Maybe some link ups and collabs with unexpected artists, possibly even crossing over genres?
Selena Gomez, benny blanco, Gracia Abrams - Call Me When You Break Up (Single)
What I Love: On the heels of an engagement that broke the internet, Selena sure knows how to make a comeback. The press she and fiance benny blanco have been doing is so fun and engaging, and shows her personality in a transparent way we haven’t seen in so long. None of the three artists featured on the song neglected their promotional duties, and it made the rollout feel cohesive to see them all engaging with each other IRL and online during the single’s lead up.
What I’d Add: Vogue cover? PAPER cover? How can be make benny blanco a little c***y?
JENNIE, Doechii - ExtraL (Single)
What I Love: The visuals are visualing. JENNIE and Doechii did a great job worldbuilding for this single, including a really fun rollout of engaging social content and new visuals. Doechii is quickly establishing herself as an asset that elevates any song she hops on. Pairing that with JENNIE, who already has one of the top music brands in the world, is creative perfection.
What I’d Add: An actors-on-actors style mock interview where the two stars interview each other, maybe even including a photo shoot where they style and creative direct each other. I’d love to see the BTS of how they both put visuals together and tell their stories.
