Rollout Roundup 6: The Best Marketing Rollouts of the Week
This week I dove a little deeper and focused on quality over quantity. Visuals are the theme of the week, and these 3 choices might surprise you.
Nicki Minaj - Beam Me Up Scotty (ALBUM)
The Twitter-procliamed “Queen of breaking the internet” flexed her muscle in 3 instagram photos and an IG live. And still had one of the most impactful “rollouts” of the night.
Strengths: Mystery! The previously released music is finally on DSPs. Itty Bitty Piggy might be the most long-awaited song on streaming services, and she finally gave it to us with no warning. Between her stop-the-world style photos on instagram and an IG live with Drake, following their nostalgia-inducing Best I Ever Had Remix, this project felt like exactly what we needed.
Weaknesses: Nicki came back from a motherhood hiatus with one of the best projects, new or old, that we’ve seen from her yet. I have no notes here…except maybe asking her to get back on twitter.
Taleban Dooda - Fallen Angel (ALBUM)
The Floridian newcomer delivered with his debut album, Fallen Angel.
Strengths: This was a great example of a slow grind. Promoting multiple singles beforehand, Dooda had the world watching and waiting to see what he would do next. Getting eyes on your project is often the biggest hurdle for developing artists, and Dooda’s promotion and activity on socials has been strong and consistent. Because of his good use of socials alone, I can see him becoming a cult favorite on the horizon.
Weaknesses: He had a great press shoot around “Dis Dooda”, but I would have loved to see some more of that! Can we please get another press shoot Dooda?!
Tia Corine - The Saga of 34 Corine (DELUXE ALBUM)
Compelling visuals, a creative name, and a Da Baby feature. All the makings of a great deluxe album.
Strengths: Visuals of course! If you’ve read literally any other one of my RR articles you know how crucial I think a good visual campaign is. Tia delivered as a rising artist in one of the most crowded weeks of the year, and still stood out. This is no easy feet, with her Kenny Beats supported video and some accompanying press shoots, Tia showed us that she is here to stay. Her Instagram is also the most cohesive and visually appealing of anyone on this list. We love an artist with a brand!
Weaknesses: I would love to see Tia post more original content on TikTok! I can see her flourishing on that platform.
